Who is this guy?

My name is Scott Gamel.  My brothers call me “big bubba”… Momma (and only Momma) calls me “Scottie”…  My wife calls me “Honey”… My sons call me lots of things, but to my face it’s mainly, “Dad,” or “Pops”… Some folks call me “Pastor.”

I am a…

…Christ follower.  In a supreme act of love, mercy, and grace, while I was yet a sinner, Jesus Christ died for me.  I have pledged to Him my life, my love, and my allegiance.

…Husband.  Married 27 years to a strong, beautiful woman – the one they had in mind when they coined the phrase, “better half.”

…Father.  Of six – count ’em – six sons.  They are a fascinating mix of artists, athletes, comedians, intellectuals, pranksters, and philosophers.  They make our home the theological laboratory God calls the “family.”

…Friend.  With a beloved cadre of dudes, near and far geographically speaking, any of whom I could call at 3:00 in the morning and say, “I need some help,” and they would be on their way, no questions asked.  And I would do the same for any of them.

…Pastor.  Of an incredible “branch office” of the Body of Christ.  A Kingdom of God “demonstration plot” in the middle of corn-fields, seeking earnestly to understand and execute what it means to live IN the finished work of Christ, and live OUT who we are in Christ, and to BE the Church in our world.  A most loving, gracious, and caring group of people – even if their selection of me to be their pastor will always make them a little suspect in some people’s eyes.

…Connoisseur. Of old movies, good books, hot coffee, Bar-B-Que, funny people, the Crimson Tide, football in general, NASCAR (anybody but Gordon), blues, bluegrass, crosswords, sudoku, trivia, golf and other puzzles of life.

…Bon vivant. Defined as “a good fellow; a jovial companion; a free liver.”  An old boss once said I “lightened the air in the room.”  I love to laugh, make others laugh, and am always willing to discuss, argue, and debate matters weighty or trivial into the wee hours.

Hey cousin, How are you?! This is Chris and I am 4 little people deep into a family myself. It’s been a long time since I talked with you. I miss you! Can you brief me on what’s been going on? Have you read anything that I’ve sent you? How about Fosilized Customs? Have you read any of that? That is some good stuff.

    Love Forever, Your Cousin Chris

Hey Scott, How wonderfully enlightening to peruse your blog. Just today I sent you an email (I believe to your church email account). Saw in the latest “Gold and Blue” that you were ministering in Indiana. I would love to hear from you (AND Workman AND Wardle). Oh yea, by the way, I still love the yankees and the dodgers still suck (that’s for Wardle!) :). Please give your lovely wife my best and check that email as I’ve got some unbelievable news I want to share you, Workman and Wardle. God Bless You and your ever growing family!

    Scott

    You are the real deal.

You were kind and patient with me at a time in my life when I really needed that. You live the word grace. You could have never picked a better wife. Six boys, when did you and V**** ever sleep. Chris is right, I miss you as well Scott. You were an anchor in my life in a time that was golden, almost magical. My time at ACC was very special. ATE. David we had a lot of fun at ACC, and we were mentored by great believers, too many to mention here. Scott the band director that I teach for is a big Alabama fan, as he is a Alabama graduate, and a former member of the superb million dollar band. I am glad that you are a Pastor, and that your ministry is doing so well. Don forget those Yankees, GO Braves!
